- for diabetic patients taking oral antidiabetic drugs (biquanides), consultation with the referring physician is necessary to discontinue them 48 hours before the examination
CT scan of the spine and extremities
- 4 hours before the examination, do not eat
Course of the examination
Before the CT scan of the abdomen and small pelvis, the patient drinks a solution with contrast medium for approximately 2 hours. This time delay must be taken into account.
Most examinations are carried out lying supine, only in specific cases lying on the abdomen. The patient lies in the 'tunnel' area for approximately 10 minutes.
During the CT scan, a contrast agent is usually injected into a vein to allow better visualization of structures and possible pathological changes.
After completion of the examination with intravenous administration of the contrast agent, the patient remains in the waiting room for approximately 30 minutes for observation.
