Radiation oncology Pardubice

The Multiscan Radiology Centre Pardubice started operating the radiotherapy department in January 2003 and in March of the same year inaugurated a newly installed linear accelerator equipped with the latest technology for IMRT treatment. It continued to operate the Teragam cobalt irradiator, which was dismantled and replaced by a new linear accelerator in 2008. At the same time, the existing linear accelerator was upgraded. Since 2006, the department has been equipped with a high dose rate brachytherapy (treatment from a short or contact distance) machine. The Wolf - Medizintechnik T-200 X-ray irradiator is used for the treatment of non-cancerous diseases. The department holds a quality certificate from the German company TÜV - Rheinland (quality certificate according to ČSN EN ISO 9001:2016).

Specifics of the care provided

Non-tumor (anti-inflammatory) radiotherapy is medical radiation therapy that is performed for selected inflammatory and degenerative diseases. The aim of the procedure is to relieve discomfort (mainly musculoskeletal pain).

Important information

  • The initial examination by a physician takes place in the outpatient clinic in building 30 of the Pardubice Hospital!
    Address.
  • Treatment with the Wolf Medizintechnik T-200 X-ray irradiator for non-cancer therapy is carried out every Tuesday and Thursday at the Vektor Polyclinic, Rokycanova Street. The usual number of fractions is 3-4, the treatment is performed twice a week.
  • In certain cases the treatment is performed on a linear accelerator.
  • During non-cancer radiotherapy, low doses of radiation are applied - more than ten times lower than during irradiation for cancer.
  • Relief from discomfort occurs only after a certain period of time has elapsed since the end of radiation, usually within 2 months. There may be a transient worsening at the beginning of radiation treatment. Low doses used in non-cancer radiotherapy may rarely have side effects, especially in cases of repeated radiation in the irradiated field. Therefore, further radiation should be well considered by the physician with regard to the total radiation dose applied.
  • The risks of radiation are also increased after topical applications of corticosteroids or in the field of skin changes (skin irritation with irritant ointments, stinging, burns). If difficulties occur during or after irradiation in the irradiated area, the physician should be informed.
  • Inform the physician of any previous irradiation.
  • Bring with you: a recommendation for non-cancer therapy and a description of the diagnostic X-ray examination. If you have undergone non-cancer therapy outside Multiscan Pardubice, take a copy of the documentation with you, including information about the doses administered.
