"An oncological diagnosis, a fact that patients hear in our clinic, significantly bends the human psyche. Of course, the treatment period itself is also difficult, not only physically but also psychologically. We very much welcome the cooperation with the Pardubice Hospital, with whom we have agreed on regular psychological assistance for patients who need it," explains Professor Karel Odrážka, head of the Comprehensive Cancer Centre of the Pardubice Region.
Psychotherapy is conducted in the form of a conversation, the topic of which can be, for example, how to cope with emotions related to the disease, treatment and the future, or how to respond to questions from the environment. The choice of the topic is entirely up to the patient and is adapted to their pace and needs. The aim of the consultation is then to find resources and ways to cope with the current situation and to increase resilience to the stress.
"The hospital psychologist comes to our center every Monday. Since the beginning of October, when we have been operating in this way, we have had at least one patient seeking psychological help each time. Information leaflets are freely available at our workplace, and if we feel it would be appropriate and helpful for some patients, we offer the service ourselves," says Lucie Čapková, a nurse who coordinates between the patient and the psychologist.
If patients need psychological help, they can contact the doctor at 466 019 542. Consultations take place every Monday in the dispensary in the Multiscan building (No. 24) on the premises of Pardubice Hospital.
