Specifics of the care provided
The examination is performed on the Siemens SOMATOM Definition AS.
Radiotherapy treatment requires localization of the target volume, obtaining CT sections for 3D planning and custom simulation of the radiation plan. In our department we use a virtual simulation using a CT simulator. The CT simulator is a conventional CT diagnostic machine equipped with a laser positioning system. We perform CT planning on the first visit and CT simulation on the second visit.
Important information
- The CT simulator is located on the 1st floor in building 30 of Pardubice Hospital.
- Always take a small towel with you to the CT planning.
- You do not need to be fasting unless we plan to perform a planning CT with contrast medium. In this case, you should be informed in advance that you should come fasting.
- When you arrive at the CT simulator, please report to the nurse and then wait in the waiting room.
- To reduce the risk of confusion with another patient, we will take a photograph of you (face) and store the photograph in our records.
- Please enter the cubicle only when asked. Wait in the cubicle until we call you into the CT simulator room.
- In the CT simulator, you will be placed in the irradiation position by the radiology assistants (or physician). We use fixation aids to ensure that you are always in the same position.
- We will draw marks on your body in green paint. The paint may stain your clothes, so we recommend wearing older underwear and preferably dark colours.
- Next, we perform a conventional CT scan in the irradiation position using fixation aids. If appropriate for treatment planning, a CT scan with intravenous administration of contrast medium is performed.
- After the planning CT scan is performed, we will arrange a date with you to perform a CT simulation.
- During the CT simulation, the procedure is similar to the planning CT scan, except that during the simulation we will draw red or purple markers on your body and only perform a short CT scan to verify the correct position of the new markers.
- After the CT simulation, we will issue you with an identification chip and arrange a time to start radiation treatment.
- If you are unable to attend the CT planning or simulation, please call between 8:00 and 12:30 on 466 686 461.
