How to communicate with patients and their relatives, conflict prevention in the healthcare environment, the art of positive thinking - these are just a few of the topics discussed at the training of nurses and radiology assistants in Pardubice and Beroun. The training took place with the financial support of the EU and was attended by more than forty employees of the Multiscan Oncology Centre Pardubice.

The profession of a paramedic is demanding both physically and especially mentally. This is doubly true in the field of oncology. Although even the most experienced worker with many years of experience may think that nothing can surprise them, the opposite is true. Each person is an individual, each patient has different needs and wishes, and it is necessary to approach and act accordingly.

Our nurses and radiology assistants also had the opportunity to improve their skills in healthy communication and positive thinking. The training took place in the spring and now in the fall and was divided into three separate sections. The duration of each was two days.

The first section focused on communication techniques that can be applied, for example, when communicating with a terminally ill patient or their family. The second section focused on conflict prevention, how to deal with conflict if it arises and how to prevent it in the workplace. The last part of the course, entitled "How to strengthen the optimist in yourself and not be overwhelmed by worries", dealt with positive psychology, mental hygiene and stress management.

"Our oncology nurses are exposed to a great deal of stress every day, which cannot be easily avoided due to the nature of their work. Communication with the patient and family members is a very sensitive matter and therefore they need to master it. I believe that the course was beneficial for our employees and that they will continue to apply the newly acquired knowledge in their work," says Ing. Pavel Pivrnec, Director of Multiscan s. r. o.

The participants were enthusiastic about the course. They not only appreciated the new knowledge, which is not just general information but can actually be applied in practice, but also the course was a personal recapitulation of their previous knowledge in the field of communication with patients and colleagues.
