Solen Medical Education has a tradition of more than twenty-five years in postgraduate medical education, and in addition to organising events and online courses for healthcare professionals, it also publishes professional journals with contributions from doctors and other healthcare professionals from the Czech Republic and Slovakia. During its existence, the journals have become a respected professional periodical for reviewing and sharing new knowledge.
The current issue of Oncology was dedicated to palliative care. The editorial already belonged to our oncologist Miroslav Žiaran, MD, an expert in palliative medicine, who runs a palliative outpatient clinic in our centre .
The main topic of the issue was opened by the expert article by MUDr. Žiaran and MUDr. Nechvátalová Early integration of palliative care (not only) in oncology. The content of the article was the early integration of palliative care into oncological treatment and looking at the patient in the context of all their needs - physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual.
Another paper on palliative care co-authored by Dr. Žiaran was Anxiety, Depression and Delirium in Hospital Palliative Care. Together with Tereza Foret, MD, they focused on these symptoms, which pose a great challenge for physicians. Their early recognition, correct diagnosis and sensitive intervention can significantly affect the experience of illness, quality of life and the dignity of the patient's dying.
The journal Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacy has not omitted the pressing topic of palliative care. In the review article by MUDr. Žiaran , A Brief Overview of Pharmacotherapy in Palliative Medicine, the basic principles of pharmacotherapy, pain management and myths and facts about opioids are mentioned.
