The 10th anniversary conference Controversies in Oncology took place

On 19 and 20 May 2022, the traditional professional event Controversy in Oncology took place in Dřítč near Pardubice. The tenth jubilee edition was attended by 200 people, among whom were present not only renowned experts from all over the Czech Republic, but also from abroad.

The two-day programme of the oncology conference was opened with opening remarks by the expert guarantor and organiser of the event, Professor Karel Odrážka, representatives of the management of Multiscan s.r.o., the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Engineer Sotirios Zavalianis, and the CEO, Engineer Milan Rufer, representative of the Hospital of the Pardubice Region, a. s, Director for Nursing Care, Mr. Oldřich Hošek, the representative of the ČOS ČLS JEP, Ms. Katarína Petráková, Chief Medical Officer, and of the SROBF ČLS JEP, Ms. Renata Soumarova, Associate Professor, the Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Health Studies of the University of Pardubice, Dr. Kateřina Horáčková, and the Deputy Mayor of Pardubice, Dr. Jan Mazuch.

The series of twenty-four lectures started with a presentation of NGS in breast cancer patients by the head of the Masaryk Cancer Institute in Brno , Katarína Petráková. The programme continued with presentations of other capacities of the field of oncology, including the President of the Czech Oncological Society and the Head of Oncology Clinic 2. LF UK and FN Motol, Associate Professor Jana Prausová with a lecture on Centralization of specialized care versus accessibility for patients in the treatment of malignant diseases, Director of the Institute of Health Information and Statistics, Professor Ladislav Dušek, Professor Jindřich Fínek, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in Pilsen and Head of the Oncology and Radiotherapy Clinic of the University Hospital Pilsen, or the President of the Society of Radiation Oncology, Biology and Physics, Associate Professor Martin Doležel, who presented the topic Radiotherapy of the lymphatics in radical radiotherapy of the prostate.

In addition to top experts from the Czech Republic, including Professor Bohuslav Melichar, Head of the Oncology Clinic of the Olomouc University Hospital, and Professor Luboš Petruželka, Head of the Oncology Clinic of the VFN, foreign oncologists also presented their work.
The lecture by Professor Michael Brady from the University of Liverpool discussed the importance of fractionation radiotherapy in lung cancer in the era of immunotherapy, Associate Professor Josef Kovařík from Newcastle Hospital presented on Radiotherapy for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia and the final representative from overseas oncology departments was Dr Lubomír Skopal from Haguenau Hospital in Alsace, France, who gave a presentation on Oncology under the Equator.

Among the experts outside the field of oncology, there was a prominent scientist, Professor Michal Holčapek from the Faculty of Chemical Technology, University of Pardubice, who spoke about the possibilities of early detection of pancreatic cancer based on blood lipid analysis, or Professor Ján Praško Pavlov, a renowned Czech psychiatrist and psychotherapist, whose presentation was equally interesting, namely Burnout Syndrome in Healthcare Professionals.

The end of the first session was dedicated to the book launch of Anal Squamous Cell Carcinoma by Dr. Radka Lohynska from Thomayer University Hospital.

After the end of the first day, a social evening awaited the participants of the Controversies, where the singer Dasha with the trio of Martin Kumžák and then the musical group James Band performed.
