The congress featured lectures by physicians of several specialties, nurses and a presentation of statistical data from the Institute of Palliative Care in the Pardubice Region. The lecture revealing the ethical and spiritual aspects of this field was very well received. A special session was devoted to children's palliative care, including a psychologist's perspective on this topic and an outline of the concept of palliative care in our region. Interesting experiences were presented by mobile specialized palliative care teams.
The meeting was attended by over 190 participants from doctors, nurses, social workers and other professionals from all over the country, from Ostrava to Karlovy Vary; registration for the congress also came from Charité Berlin.
The event, which was originally scheduled to take place in May last year and was postponed several times due to the coronavirus pandemic, offered participants the opportunity to meet, talk and share professional experiences in addition to the professional programme.
Marie Hubálková, Director of the Pardubice Charity, was pleased with the positive response of the congress participants. During the congress, I had the opportunity to meet a lot of nice people and from the conversations with doctors, politicians, representatives of cooperating organizations, social workers and nurses, I am happy to realize that what we have been trying to do in the Charity for a long time is becoming more and more successful. We want to be able to enable every patient who wishes to leave this world in a dignified way, in the presence of loved ones, in a home environment. At the same time, I am aware that raising general awareness of the possibilities of home palliative and hospice care must go hand in hand with increasing the expertise of those who care for patients. This is what we have been trying to do in the Pardubice Charity for a long time and I am glad that our palliative congress has contributed to this."
The Pardubice Regional Charity has long been striving to develop hospice and palliative care. In addition to the two home hospice care centres in Pardubice and Holice helping patients and carers, it recently opened a Palliative Medicine Outpatient Clinic working closely with its Home Hospice of Guardian Angels. It is thus expanding its diverse range of activities - nursing services, personal assistance, relief services (residential, outpatient and outreach), medical equipment rental and more to help families caring for their loved ones at home.
