This year, the opening ceremony of the Run of Hope was hosted by MUDr. Vít Ulrych from the Multiscan Oncology Centre Pardubice, which is part of the Comprehensive Oncology Centre of the Pardubice Region. In a few sentences he spoke mainly about cancer prevention, about the ongoing screening programmes for breast cancer, cervical cancer and colorectal cancer and emphasised the great progress that has been made in the treatment of cancer in recent years. And then he proceeded to count down the starting seconds. The expected word ,,start" set in motion this year a hundred participants on bicycles, roller skates, scooters, baby strollers, runners and walkers.
At the finish line, again in front of the Town Hall, everyone was rewarded with a diploma and a bag with small gifts as well as the weather, which contributed to the good mood. Then followed refreshments and the traditional draw for prizes, which was held by MUDr. Ulrych together with another guest, the vice-mayor of Chrudim Mr. Roman Malek.
In addition to the prepared prizes, the participants could choose a T-shirt with a description, a cap, a ruler with pencils and a pencil sharpener and other souvenirs according to the amount of their financial contribution to the sealed boxes.
This year exceeded expectations in the number of participants and the amount of contributions for cancer treatment. Exactly one hundred participants put CZK 7,289 in their coffers, an increase of CZK 4,263 compared to last year.
The organizers decided to continue the 10th edition in 2017. We will meet again in Polička on 25 June 2017.
