"I knew about the transport service of the Cancer Centre in Pardubice as our sister medical facility, so when I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I asked for treatment at Multiscan. I underwent a series of radiation treatments, and the entire treatment, during which I was in Pardubice, lasted about eight weeks," says Jana Šmídová.
In addition to the free transport in a shuttle car, Jana also used the hotel accommodation, which was fully paid for by Multiscan. Because the last year, when the patient was undergoing treatment, was already marked by a covid, Jana could not take advantage of free tickets to the cinema or historical sights, for example, other benefits that the oncology centre has prepared for patients when the situation improves.
"Even though the times were not too favourable, I think I got to know Pardubice quite well. I enjoyed the time that was mine alone, because my boyfriend and I had been home for several months before and we were getting on each other's nerves," laughs the pediatric nurse, who has been working in the Intensive Care Unit in Hořovice for more than five years.
The treatment that was prescribed has worked and Jana now only goes to her oncologist in Hořovice for check-ups. She has applied for a partial disability pension and continues to care for paediatric patients at her home hospital.
"The period just before and during her illness was very difficult. First my dad died, then I got sick, and finally underwent unpleasant treatment. A big thank you to all the Multiscan staff I met for their care and concern, and also to my friend and daughter and granddaughter for their support, and to my mother for the delicious buns she baked for me," Jana Šmídová adds with a smile.
