100 million worth of convenience for patients
The largest investment of Multiscan in 2018 is in the new clinical oncology building on the premises of the Pardubice Regional Hospital. The construction, which should be completed in 2019, will cost around CZK 100 million in total. "This investment is being made only by Multiscan with the agreement and support of the owner of the Pardubice hospital - the Pardubice Region. It is primarily about moving clinical oncology to premises where a higher standard of care will be provided. We also want to unite all our outpatient clinics in the Pardubice hospital under one roof. The premises for the application of systemic oncology treatment (chemotherapy, targeted - biological treatment) will be modern, larger and designed based on the latest recommendations of architects," says Pavel Pivrnec, director of the Multiscan Oncology Centre in Pardubice. According to Multiscan, the old premises of the outpatient clinics are already inadequate - among other things because patients may not feel comfortable in them.
12 million - the price for a unique treatment in the Czech Republic and an increase in the chance of survival
A further CZK 12 million will go towards the treatment of cervical cancer - specifically the purchase of a new MRI machine, which will be located directly in the radiation room. This investment also includes structural improvements to the patient areas. This interconnection of devices is unique in the Czech Republic and is used abroad only by top oncology clinics. However, for patients with inoperable cervical cancer, it increases the chance of survival by a fifth. "Magnetic resonance imaging allows us to precisely locate the tumour and then irradiate it in a targeted manner. Thanks to this targeted irradiation, the survival rate of women with locally advanced disease has improved by 20%, which is one of the biggest improvements in oncology in the last 20 years," says Pavel Pivrnec. The treatment of locally advanced cervical cancer is challenging, but in many cases, the combination of modern radiotherapy - external and internal radiation - with chemotherapy can cure inoperable tumours. Multiscan will offer this combination of treatments to patients at the beginning of May this year.
First patients in autumn 2019
Patients will be able to try out the new premises of the Multiscan Cancer Centre in Pardubice as early as autumn 2019. In addition to the aforementioned comfort in this new building and new treatment approaches, patients will be able to use a new therapeutic X-ray machine worth CZK 10 million on the premises of the Vektor polyclinic in Rokycanova Street in Pardubice. "Annually, we treat almost 4 thousand patients with various oncological diseases with a total number of 21 thousand visits in the outpatient clinics of clinical oncology in Pardubice. Our facility also includes three other clinical oncology outpatient clinics with inpatient facilities for cancer treatment throughout the region, which are fully available to patients and increase the comfort of treatment by being close to our patients. However, we also receive a large number of patients from outside the Pardubice Region," adds Pavel Pivrnec, director of Multiscan. Multiscan, which is part of the Comprehensive Cancer Centre of the Pardubice Region, is part of the Akeso healthcare group, which also includes hospitals in Hořovice and Beroun.
