International Nurses' Day at the Multiscan Cancer Centre Pardubice

14. 5. 2018

May 12 is an international day that belongs exclusively to nurses around the world. As a symbol of gratitude for their excellent work and professional approach, the director of the Multiscan Pardubice Oncology Centre Pavel Pivrnec presented the nurses with cakes from the Libuše confectionery in Pardubice. "Our nurses and radiology assistants are the best, they are professionals with their hearts in the right place. Oncology is a difficult field and they try to be a great support to the patients. I am very happy to take this opportunity to thank them for their professionalism and great attitude towards their work and patients. Without them, our department could not be the top in the Czech Republic. It is therefore more than appropriate to appreciate their work," said Pavel Pivrnec, Director of the Multiscan Cancer Centre.

Nurses as a leading voice: health is a human right

International Nurses' Day is dated 12 May as it is linked to the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale (1820) - an English nurse of noble birth, author of professional literature and pioneer of comparative medical statistics. She was also at the origin of the development of the medical professions and their organisations into their modern form. And the Multiscan Pardubice Cancer Centre has traditionally joined this celebration of a woman who became an inspiration for the founders of the Red Cross. "International Nurses' Day has been established since 1971, and here at Multiscan we do not forget to express our gratitude to them for their work - and not just on 12 May, of course. We appreciate our nurses not only for their expertise, but also for their approach to patients. We could not do without the top quality of their work at Multiscan," says Pavel Pivrnec, director of the cancer centre. This year's International Nurses' Day has the motto: Nurses as a leading voice: health is a human right. "Every day all over the world, nurses celebrate their holiday, and in the minds of patients, in whose difficult moments they are close to them and help them.

"I was intrigued by a quote from the American physician F.W. Peabody: "The treatment of a disease may be impersonal, but the care of the patient must be absolutely personal." The nursing profession is absolutely irreplaceable, caring for the needs of others when they are most vulnerable. The relationship a nurse develops with a client offers her a unique and intimate insight into their lives," adds Vít Ulrych, a doctor and spokesperson for Multiscan.
