At noon, the opening ceremony was held, which was attended by the head physician of the Comprehensive Cancer Centre of the Pardubice Region , Prof. MUDr. Karel Odrážka, Ph.D., who then handed over the floor to the guests of honour. On behalf of the professional societies briefly spoke doc. MUDr. Radka Lohynská, Ph.D. for the Society of Radiation Oncology, Biology and Physics and prof. MUDr. Tomáš Büchler, Ph.D., member of the Committee of the Czech Oncological Society. The conference was also held under the auspices of important Pardubice institutions - on behalf of the Pardubice Region, the Deputy Minister for Health Ing. Michaela Matoušková and for the Faculty of Health Studies of the University of Pardubice spoke its dean, doc. RNDr. ThLic. Karel Sládek, Ph.D. Among others who welcomed the guests were the Director of the Regional Branch of VZP Hradec Králové Ing. Michal Provazník and the General Director of the Hospital of Pardubice Region a.s. MUDr. Tomáš Gottvald. The conclusion belonged to the representatives of the medical holding AKESO and the company Multiscan s.r.o., which is part of it, namely the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the holding Ing. Sotirio Zavalianis and the Executive Director of the holding Ing. Mgr. Martina Kulštejnová.
The two-day conference programme consisted of twenty-six lectures on various oncological topics and subsequent discussions on the latest procedures and methods in cancer treatment. Among the traditional speakers were, for example, the President of the Society of Radiation Oncology, Biology and Physics , Prof. Martin Doležel, M.D., Ph.D., with a paper on adaptive radiotherapy, and the Head of the Oncology Clinic of the Olomouc University Hospital, Prof. Bohuslav Melichar, M.D., Ph.D., who focused on the position of oncology in the spectrum of internal medicine. Artificial intelligence in radiotherapy was discussed by the Head of the Department of Oncology and Radiotherapy of the Faculty of Medicine of the HK Medical University , prof. MUDr. Jiří Petera, Ph.D. Then he opened the controversial topic of the Dark Side of Oncology Research and Practice, which many would rather forget, but it is important to know, doc. MUDr. Milan Vošmik, Ph.D. from the same University Hospital.
Oncologists from abroad also came to this year's event. With their lectures were presented MUDr. Zuzana Lovasová from Västerås, Sweden, the Chairman Emeritus of ESTRO and the Secretary General Emeritus of ECCO Prof. Michael Brada BSc, MB ChB, FRCP, FRCS, DSc from the University of Liverpool, Assoc. MUDr. Josef Kovařík, Ph.D. from Newcastle Hospital and MUDr. Lubomír Skopal from Haguenau, France, who compared the availability of modern treatments in France and the Czech Republic.
Among the lecturers there were also several new faces, for example, doc. MUDr. Radovan Vojtíšek, Ph.D. from the University Hospital Pilsen with his original lecture entitled PCI & SCLC @ EBM or How firm is the anchoring of prophylactic radiotherapy of crania in the treatment algorithm of small cell lung cancer? or prim. MUDr. Jiří Pudil from the Surgical Clinic of the University Hospital in Prague, who spoke about the role of surgeon and oncologist in the treatment of colorectal cancer with liver metastases. The centralisation of oncological care and its availability in non-faculty Cancer Centre was the focus of the talk by prim. MUDr. Markéta Pospíšková, head physician of the Comprehensive Oncology Centre of the T. Bata Regional Hospital in Zlín, and the Friday programme was concluded by Miroslav Žiaran, MD, physician of the Comprehensive Oncology Centre of the Pardubice Region and ON Náchod , who presented the pressing topic of communication of bad news and impending death.
After the end of the first day, the participants of the Controversies were treated to a chamber concert by singer and actress Eva Burešová with a guitarist, followed by a performance by the James Band.
