"I perceive the defence of the status as a confirmation not only of the quality of the care provided, but also of the excellent cooperation between the two cooperating entities. At the same time, it shows once again the importance of our large investments in the modernisation of the equipment designed specifically for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer patients in recent years," says the Director General of the Hospital of the Pardubice Region, MUDr. Tomáš Gottvald, MHA.
Among the criteria for granting the status were, for example, requirements for technical and material equipment of the medical facility or staffing for highly specialised care. At the same time, a requirement was set for a minimum number of oncology patients treated and medical procedures performed per year, for the entire period of the centre's operation since 2015.
"Obtaining the status of a highly specialised cancer care centre was very important for us. Its award confirmed that we have taken the right path and that we can rank among the best oncology centres in the Czech Republic," says Prof. Karel Odrážka, M.D., Ph.D., Head of the Comprehensive Oncology Centre of the Pardubice Region. "Our centre is considered one of the most desirable. This is a clear indication of the quality and complexity of the health care we provide to cancer patients, whose numbers are constantly increasing," adds Vladimír Ninger, M.D., Ph.D., Director of Health Services at the Pardubice Region Hospital.
The Comprehensive Cancer Centre of the Pardubice Region is made up of two cooperating entities. The Pardubice Hospital provides inpatient oncological care within the Department of Clinical and Radiation Oncology and at the same time complex onco-surgical care involving multidisciplinary teams consisting of physicians and health professionals from the hospital and the Multiscan Pardubice Oncology and Radiology Centre. Multiscan is responsible for clinical and radiation oncology outpatient clinics throughout the Pardubice Region.
"The system of organisation of our comprehensive oncology centre is very sophisticated. This ensures the availability of specialised and innovative treatment for all cancer patients not only from our region, but also from some areas of the adjacent regions," explains CEO Gottvald.
The interdependent system of cooperation between the two medical facilities and other experts from the region, the high level of professionalism and the continuous development of the workplace in terms of technical aspects was already recognised in 2017, when the Comprehensive Cancer Centre of the Pardubice Region was named a model centre and one with the highest number of treated and monitored patients according to the statistics of health insurance companies.
"The success of the centre is due not only to the top medical management and quality staff across all disciplines, but also to the hundreds of millions of financial investments in the modernisation of the facility. Following the completion of the new clinical oncology building, the refurbishment of the linear accelerator and the acquisition of an MRI for brachytherapy in the radiotherapy department, Multiscan has further plans to innovate and improve the delivery of care, in particular increasing comfort and safety from a patient perspective. For example, after the successful introduction of the use of modern equipment and infusion technology for safer and more comfortable administration of systemic treatment in the outpatient clinics of the Pardubice department, Multiscan intends to introduce the same equipment and procedures in the detached outpatient clinics. Other plans include providing a transport service for oncology patients from Chrudim, Ústí nad Orlicí and Svitavy," concludes the owner of AKESO Holding a.s. and managing director of Multiscan s.r.o. Ing. Sotirios Zavalianis.
