Palliative care is an essential part of cancer treatment. However, it is not just for cancer patients, but is aimed at improving the quality of life of all patients and their families facing serious, life-threatening illnesses.
The expert seminar on this topic, which took place at the beginning of the week in the conference hall of the Multiscan Cancer Centre, was divided into two blocks and was attended by participants from various medical institutions operating in the Pardubice Region.
The first part was presented by clinical oncologist and palliator Miroslav Žiaran, MD, who outlined to the participants what types of palliative care exist, what the differences between them are or how individual procedures are reported. The presentation also included a clear map showing the individual health care facilities providing palliative care in the region.
The second block focused on the challenges related to bereavement care and funeral care in health care facilities, which were presented by the director of the Regional Charity Chrudim Bc. Alena Peremská, MHA. The lecture opened up a number of interesting topics ranging from the stages of grieving through the options of a healthcare facility for the bereaved to guidance on choosing a reputable funeral service.
