After the completion of the construction of the new pavilion of clinical oncology for nearly 100 million crowns, the company Multiscan s.r.o. from the medical holding AKESO, owned by Ing. Sotirios Zavalians, made another significant financial investment of CZK 120 million for the benefit of the patients of the Comprehensive Oncology Centre of the Pardubice Region. This amount was used to modernise the radiotherapy department, in particular for the purchase of a new linear accelerator, which was put into operation earlier this week, and for the modernisation of the planning system.

The Radiotherapy Department has two linear accelerators for irradiation of cancer patients, the older Clinac 2100 C/D has now been replaced by a TrueBeam accelerator from the American company Varian. Multiscan Cancer and Radiology Centre has extensive experience with this, as the same type was purchased and commissioned for radiotherapy at the beginning of 2016.

"We have been working with the TrueBeam linear accelerator on a daily basis for many years, we know its capabilities and specifics perfectly and we are very satisfied with it. We have not even considered any other type of accelerator. It is a very high quality device that meets all the current requirements for radiation treatment," said Aleš Hlávka, M.D., Ph.D., Head of Radiotherapy.

With the purchase of the new linear accelerator, the Aria planning system was also upgraded. The new system will increase the comfort of radiotherapy planning, enable the use of new computer models and speed up the entire planning process.
