Multiscan Cancer Center is the first in the country to introduce the HyperArc method

Multiscan, part of the highly specialized Comprehensive Cancer Centre of the Pardubice Region, has put into practice a new method of stereotactic radiosurgery HyperArc since this year's holidays. It allows the linear accelerator to irradiate multiple intracranial foci of the brain simultaneously.

The Department of Radiation Oncology, where irradiation of patients not only from the Pardubice Region is carried out, has been responding promptly to the latest findings in the field of radiotherapy throughout its operation, and now it is coming up with another improvement.

The HyperArc technique is a new solution for stereotactic radiosurgery, which uses high dose radiation with a precisely defined volume to treat tumours with minimal damage to the surrounding tissue. Using the HyperArc method, multiple affected lesions in the brain can be irradiated simultaneously.

"This technique is 'friendly' to both the patient and the staff, as the irradiation time is shorter and the preparations for the actual irradiation are much simpler than with sequential irradiation of individual lesions," says the head of radiation oncology, Aleš Hlávka, MD, PhD.
