At the beginning of September, work began on replacing the Clinac 2100 C/D linear accelerator with a new TrueBeam linear accelerator from the American company Varian. Like the TrueBeam, which has been used at Multiscan since 2016, it can irradiate patients using modern techniques, including the controlled breathing method. The Multiscan department will thus once again have two high-quality devices for irradiating patients.
Along with the replacement of the linear accelerator, the Aria planning system will be upgraded. The new system will increase the comfort of radiotherapy planning, enable the use of new computer models and speed up the entire planning process.
"A modern facility, such as Multiscan undoubtedly is, must meet certain standards in order to provide the best possible care to its patients. The purchase of a new linear accelerator is one of the steps to achieve this," says Ing. Milan Rufer, MBA, CEO of AKESO holding a. s.
The operation of the new linear accelerator will start in January next year, until then the necessary preparatory work and testing will take place. Patients will be irradiated on the existing linear accelerator from 2016 at the time of the accelerator replacement.
"We will adjust the operation of the patients who come to us for radiation treatment so that they are affected as little as possible by the installation of the new accelerator," adds Naďa Hloušová, spokeswoman for the Multiscan Oncology and Radiology Centre.
