Multiscan supported the publication of Vera Fina's Magic Calendar

Věra Fina is a writer and founder of the patient organization Jelimán, z. s., which focuses on supporting patients with cancer diagnosis. Her harsh personal experience with this disease and its complex treatment was the impetus for the creation of several projects that aim to detabulize the topic of cancer. One of them, for example, is the Magic Calendar 2021, the publication of which was financially supported by our centre.

Writer Vera Fina began treatment for rectal cancer in late 2014. Once she had overcome the worst phase of her treatment and recovery, she began to focus intensively on education. She has a lot of ideas in her head that she wants to gradually implement. Besides the aforementioned calendar, she is the author of the charity travelling exhibition Every Day is a Gift or the motivational project Sad of Hope, which is aimed at cancer patients and patients in remission.

Many people across society have expressed their support for her work. She collaborates with prominent personalities not only in the art world but also in the political world. For her work, she has been rewarded with nominations for the Olga Havel Prize, the Woman of the Region Award and the EU Altiero Spinelli Prize.

"The motto of our organisation is "Let's try to make the world better by lending a hand" and "Every day is a gift". I think this describes exactly what is important in the world. Unless one has gone through some difficult trials, one can rarely live up to these mottos completely. Yet cancer can affect any of us," says Věra Fina.

The forty-nine-year-old mother of three is now advocating, among other things, for changes in the medical assessment service. She seeks greater rights and relief for ostomates, who struggle daily with the difficulties of an artificially created intestinal or urethral outlet through the abdominal wall. There is still little discussion of this issue in society.

"Mrs Fina's work to highlight the seriousness of cancer and the problems associated with it is very close to our hearts. We are very happy that she approached us and that we were able to contribute to the publication of the calendar. She has our 100% support and we are cheering her on in the next steps she has set for herself," says Naďa Hloušová, spokesperson for the Multiscan Oncology and Radiology Centre.
