These are patients from the detached workplaces in Ústí nad Orlicí, Svitavy and Chrudim and the cooperating workplace in Hořovice. This is a completely unique project, in which patients are provided not only with transport and other benefits, but also with accommodation in the case of patients from Hořovice.
"The idea of providing transport, which is not a substitute for the transport medical service, for irradiated patients from our detached workplaces was the first one to be born. We realised that regular commuting to radiation treatment is not easy for everyone, so our aim was to increase patient comfort and efficiency of planning. Then we added oncology patients from our sister hospital in Hořovice and now patients from the University Hospital in Olomouc, where the equipment is currently being renewed, are also taking advantage of the offer," says Martina Kulštejnová, Executive Director of AKESO Holding.
In addition to free travel on the Czech Railways shuttle car or trains and accommodation in the centre of Pardubice, Multiscan offers, for example, a public transport card or the possibility of borrowing books from the Regional Library Pardubice. As soon as the epidemiological situation permits, free tickets to Pardubice's sights and entertainment venues are also available for patients who will spend several weeks in Pardubice for treatment.
However, to ensure a smooth process, the perfect interaction of several people is needed, not only the patient, but also the attending physicians and project coordinators.
"The most important thing is to assess the patient's health, that is, whether he or she is suitable, for example in the case of Hořovice, for transfer to our centre. He or she is then given an initial examination and a radiation treatment plan for several weeks is proposed. The treatment procedure and other activities in the form of accommodation and transport are the result of the work of a team of colleagues," adds Professor Karel Odrážka, head of the Comprehensive Cancer Centre of the Pardubice Region.
