IV. annual conference "Controversies in Oncology"

21. 11. 2015

"During the two-day conference, a total of 22 leading experts from complex oncology centres from the Czech Republic and abroad presented their reports at a high professional level", says Iveta Kolářová, MUDr., PhD., representative of doc. MUDr. Jaroslav Vaňásek, Csc., Chief Physician of OC Multiscan Pardubice, who was also the expert guarantor of this conference. More than 180 oncologists, surgeons, urologists and doctors of other specialties gathered in the congress centre. The lectures of Dr. Dvořák, Head of the Physical Department of The London Clinic, and representatives of the National Cancer Institute in Bratislava, Director Dr. Dolinský and Deputy Director Dr. Šálek, were met with the greatest response. The Bratislava colleagues focused on modern treatment of malignant tumours of the digestive tract. The experts also discussed controversial issues in the treatment of breast cancer. For example, the lecture of doc. Dr. Tesarova from VFN Prague addressed the issue of young women with breast cancer who want to become pregnant after treatment. Another problem that oncologists have to deal with is the disease of women with breast cancer during pregnancy, when their goal is to save the life of the mother and the fetus.

The conference was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Health, MUDr. Tom Philipp, whom doc. Dr. Vaňásek and Dr. Ulrych gave a tour of the Oncology Centre in Pardubice. There were also representatives of the Pardubice Region, the Faculty of Health Studies of the University of Pardubice and health insurance companies and directors of hospitals in Pardubice and Chrudim. For the first time ever, we also welcomed a representative of patient organizations, the chairwoman of the Club of Oncology Patients in Pardubice, Ms. Alena Nováková, who thanked us for our long-term cooperation with the Centre and briefly explained what activities the Club offers to patients who are returning to a full life after treatment.

During the social evening, the well-known violin virtuoso Václav Hudeček performed with the Musica Minore chamber orchestra.

Preparations for the 5th anniversary edition of this professional symposium, which will take place in May 2015, are already underway.
