The Oncology Department at Hospital Hořovice, a branch of the Multiscan Pardubice Oncology and Radiology Center, received a financial donation of 88,000 CZK. The proceeds from the auction of a jersey signed by legendary hockey player Jaromír Jágr will be used to further improve the environment of the outpatient clinics and day care center and will help increase the comfort of cancer patients during their treatment.

The ceremonial presentation of the donation took place on May 27, 2026, at Hospital Hořovice, attended by the donors, deputies from Hospital Hořovice, the Multiscan Pardubice Oncology and Radiology Center (part of the AKESO Group), and officials from the city of Hořovice.

The story behind the donation began during this year’s charity hockey game, “MATCH FOR ONCOLOGY,” which is organized annually by HC Spartak Žebrák to support the Oncology Outpatient Clinic at Hospital Hořovice. On this occasion, Dr. Martin Šmakal, chief physician of the Oncology Department at Hospital Hořovice, donated a jersey signed by hockey player Jaromír Jágr to be auctioned off .

The auction culminated during the Hořovice City Ball and became one of the highlights of the evening. Those interested in the unique jersey outbid one another until, in the end, several of them decided to join forces and support the oncology department together. Thanks to their generosity, an impressive 88,000 CZK was raised.

Donors include the married couple Ing. Jiří Karmazín and MUDr. Jitka Karmazínová, Jan Bartoška, Barbora Červená, Ing. Peter Sýkora, and Miroslav Weber. The hospital extends its heartfelt thanks to all donors for their support and solidarity.

“I am very pleased that our town is able to bring people together for a good cause. This wonderful amount is proof that the residents of Hořovice and the surrounding area care deeply about the fate of cancer patients. I thank all the donors for their generosity and willingness to help where it is truly needed,” said Eva Kaufmanová, deputy mayor of Hořovice .

Dr. Martin Šmakal, chief physician of the Oncology Department at Hospital Hořovice, expressed his appreciation not only for the financial donation itself but also for the public’s long-standing concern for patients and their needs.

“We greatly appreciate every form of support that helps us create the most comfortable environment possible for our patients. We will use these funds to improve the facilities at our outpatient clinics and day care center. At the same time, we have long made it a priority to listen directly to our patients. They know best what would help them during treatment or make their stay at our facility more pleasant. Thanks to donations like this, we can gradually fulfill their wishes,” said Dr. Martin Šmakal.

During the meeting, the donors had the opportunity to discuss the care provided with deputies from the AKESO Group’s healthcare facilities and to learn about Hospital Hořovice’s current and upcoming development projects.

Jiří Pichlík, M.A., DiS., Chief Operating Officer of Hospital Hořovice , also expressed his gratitude to the donors .

“Moments like these remind us that healthcare is not just about modern technology and professional care, but also about human solidarity. We are grateful to everyone who has decided to support our patients and contribute to improving the hospital environment. It is an honor for us to be part of a community that can join forces for a good cause.”

The significance of the donation for the further development of oncology care was also emphasized by Ing. Michal Provazník, Director of the Multiscan Pardubice Oncology and Radiology Center .

“The collaboration between Hospital Hořovice and the Multiscan Center within the AKESO Group allows patients to receive high-quality oncology care close to home. We greatly appreciate the long-standing support the public has shown our facility. This donation will contribute to further improving the environment in which patients undergo their treatment and will help increase their comfort.”

Hospital Hořovice thanks all donors, the town of Hořovice, and everyone who participated in this initiative. Their support is proof that solidarity and a willingness to help are deeply rooted in the region and provide tangible assistance to patients.
